Sales Lead(New business)

You build the pipeline for Liffey and run the conversations that come out of it, with founders and CEOs of growing companies who buy on evidence and reward a straight conversation.

Brief

You sell to founders and CEOs. Growing companies from roughly €1M to €100M+ in revenue, across Europe. The buyer is usually the person whose name is on the company, which is a different conversation from selling to a department.

You build the pipeline as well as working it. Conversations are running today, and where the next hundred come from is your call.

What you sell is better commercial decisions. A business that wins and grows more customers because everyone making a call is working from the same current picture of how it wins. The platform and the architect are how that gets delivered.

The role

Build the pipeline, and hold the conversation.

Liffey is early in a category that formed this year. The demand is real and the language is still settling, so the job is partly finding the people who already feel the problem and partly giving them the words for it.

The buyer is a founder or a chief executive, occasionally a commercial leader they trust. They are numerate, they are short of time, and they hear from a lot of people about AI. What earns the second meeting is a conversation about their commercial position that is useful in its own right.

You will be selling to people who can tell in ten minutes whether you have run a business or read about one.

You own these conversations, and the founder joins whenever that adds weight to the room. Founder to founder is a real advantage in this market, and it is yours to use.

The bar.

Credibility in the room is most of this job. This is the standard we hire to.

You have run something of your own

Founded a business or built something from the ground up? You know the founder’s chair from the inside, which is what makes the conversation land, and you like building while you sell.

You have sold to founders and CEOs

Owner-level buyers, where the decision and the budget sit with the same person and the sale turns on trust. We ask which ones, and what they bought.

You have built pipeline from nothing

Outbound, network, events, content, partners. This role rewards somebody who enjoys creating demand as much as converting it.

You can hold a commercial conversation

Pricing, positioning, qualification, churn. You easily discuss a prospect’s commercial problem on your own knowledge, because that conversation is the product.

You have sold a considered purchase

Several conversations, a real evaluation, and a buyer who has to justify it to themselves. Transactional volume selling is a different craft.

You communicate clearly

Much of this job is putting a prospect’s situation into words they recognise, in writing, before anyone gets on a call. It is the part that earns the meeting.

The real skill is listening: identifying the real pain, and where a commercial architect can add sustainable value.

The work

What you own.

The whole of new business, from where a name comes from to the point a client is working with an architect.

  1. Pipeline. Where the conversations come from, tested in the market. Outbound, the founder network, events, the writing we publish, and partners who reach the same people.
  2. Qualification. Who we are the right answer for, decided early and said out loud. A good fit compounds for years, so we are precise about it.
  3. The first conversation. Thirty minutes on their commercial position that is worth having on its own terms.
  4. The diagnostic and the demo. Running both against the prospect’s own situation, live.
  5. Proposal and close. Scoping the engagement with the architect who would run it, and holding the price.
  6. The handover. What the architect needs on day one, and what was promised in the room, written down.

What you learn in those conversations is the most valuable input we have. Objections, the words prospects use, the reasons people stall. That goes back into positioning and pricing, and you own that loop too.

How the work runs.

Short lines, fast decisions, and a founder who is in the pipeline alongside you.

A weekly rhythm

The same cadence our clients run: one agreed set of numbers, a standing session, and decisions made in it. You will use the product on our own business, which is the fastest way to learn it.

Every claim stands up

Published pricing, a published method, a recorded demo and a free tier. Whatever you say in the room, a prospect can go and check it.

Based in Dublin, selling across Europe

Our clients are across Europe. Expect a mix of meetings in person and by video, with travel where being in the room earns it. We agree the balance at the start.

The offer

What you get.

  • The motion is yours to build. Early enough that how we sell is still an open question, and you would be the person answering it.
  • Something worth the scrutiny it gets. Prices, method, sub-processors and the data architecture are all published. You can send the most thorough buyer to the site and let them dig.
  • A direct line to the founder. You are in the room for the decisions about pricing, packaging and who we sell to.
  • A category being formed. Commercial intelligence is new, and the ground is there to be taken.
  • Work that shapes the product. What you hear in the market changes what we build and how we position it, within weeks.

What we do, and who we do it for.

Liffey helps businesses make better commercial decisions, so they win and grow more customers.

Every company knows things about how it wins. Which buyers are worth most, what the price should be, why the last deal landed. That knowledge usually lives in a few people, and the rest of the team works from a version they half remember.

We put a senior commercial architect inside the business. An operator who has run a commercial team before, working alongside the client’s team to define the strategy and then execute it with them.

They work from a method that covers the whole commercial picture: the value only that company can deliver, the buyers it is worth most to, how it reaches them, and what happens after the win.

And it is all held in a commercial brain, kept current from the systems the business already runs, answering questions in plain English with the evidence attached, reachable by everyone who has to make a call.

Judgement, method and knowledge together, on the one question that decides revenue. That is commercial intelligence.

Brendan Hughes, Founder and Chief Commercial Architect at Liffey

For twenty years I’ve worked in commercial seats in companies from scale-up to PLC, lining up the systems, the processes and the people behind a strategy.

The same thing happened everywhere. The strategy would be good, and then it would fade. The document sat unread, the team drifted, and what one person had worked out stayed with that person. Engineering solved this decades ago with their repos. Commercial teams have been waiting for their equivalent.

Liffey is that equivalent, and commercial intelligence is the category we are building. What I want is a business where the thinking is written down, kept current, and applied by people who have actually run something.
