Cookie policy
Last updated 15 August 2026
Analytics runs without cookies and without identifying you until you choose otherwise. Nothing else is loaded until you turn it on.
1. What we use today
Two things run on this website: strictly necessary cookies, and Google Analytics in a cookieless mode until you tell us otherwise.
Strictly necessary cookies are exempt from the consent requirement under the ePrivacy Regulations. Google Analytics is loaded on every page with Google Consent Mode set to denied, which means that before you make a choice it writes nothing to your device, sets no identifier, and sends only an anonymous count that a page was viewed. Nothing in that state can be tied back to you or joined up between pages.
The moment you accept analytics, it begins storing a cookie so that repeat visits can be recognised, which is what makes the numbers useful to us. If you choose essential only, it stays in the cookieless state permanently.
2. What is set, and when
| What | Purpose | When it is set | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Consent record | Remembers the choice you make in the cookie panel, so you are not asked again | Always, once you choose | Stored in your browser until you clear it |
| Session and security cookies | Keep you signed in to the product and protect against request forgery | On sign-in at liffey.app | Session, or up to 30 days where you choose to stay signed in |
| Load-balancing cookie | Routes your requests consistently while you browse | Always | Session |
| Google Analytics | Tells us which pages are useful. Cookieless and anonymous until accepted | Only once you accept analytics | Up to 2 years |
| Marketing tools | Recognise a return visit, so we can tell whether something we sent you brought you here | Only once you accept marketing. They are not loaded at all before that | Varies by provider |
The consent record is kept in your browser's local storage rather than in a cookie, because it never needs to be sent to us.
3. Changing your mind
Your choice can be changed at any time, and withdrawing is as easy as giving: open the cookie panel, or use the Cookie preferences link in the footer of any page. Choosing essential only returns analytics to its cookieless state and stops the marketing tools loading.
If we add a tool that sets a cookie, it is off until you turn it on, and this page is updated before it goes live.
4. Controlling cookies
Every major browser lets you view, block and delete cookies in its settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from signing in to the product.
5. More detail
How we handle personal data generally is set out in our privacy notice.
