Analytics runs without cookies and without identifying you until you choose otherwise. Nothing else is loaded until you turn it on.

1. What we use today

Two things run on this website: strictly necessary cookies, and Google Analytics in a cookieless mode until you tell us otherwise.

Strictly necessary cookies are exempt from the consent requirement under the ePrivacy Regulations. Google Analytics is loaded on every page with Google Consent Mode set to denied, which means that before you make a choice it writes nothing to your device, sets no identifier, and sends only an anonymous count that a page was viewed. Nothing in that state can be tied back to you or joined up between pages.

The moment you accept analytics, it begins storing a cookie so that repeat visits can be recognised, which is what makes the numbers useful to us. If you choose essential only, it stays in the cookieless state permanently.

2. What is set, and when

WhatPurposeWhen it is setDuration
Consent recordRemembers the choice you make in the cookie panel, so you are not asked againAlways, once you chooseStored in your browser until you clear it
Session and security cookiesKeep you signed in to the product and protect against request forgeryOn sign-in at liffey.appSession, or up to 30 days where you choose to stay signed in
Load-balancing cookieRoutes your requests consistently while you browseAlwaysSession
Google AnalyticsTells us which pages are useful. Cookieless and anonymous until acceptedOnly once you accept analyticsUp to 2 years
Marketing toolsRecognise a return visit, so we can tell whether something we sent you brought you hereOnly once you accept marketing. They are not loaded at all before thatVaries by provider

The consent record is kept in your browser's local storage rather than in a cookie, because it never needs to be sent to us.

3. Changing your mind

Your choice can be changed at any time, and withdrawing is as easy as giving: open the cookie panel, or use the Cookie preferences link in the footer of any page. Choosing essential only returns analytics to its cookieless state and stops the marketing tools loading.

If we add a tool that sets a cookie, it is off until you turn it on, and this page is updated before it goes live.

4. Controlling cookies

Every major browser lets you view, block and delete cookies in its settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from signing in to the product.

5. More detail

How we handle personal data generally is set out in our privacy notice.

We value your privacy

We use analytics to understand which pages help people, and it stays anonymous until you say otherwise. Nothing is stored on your device without your consent. See our cookie policy.

Your cookie choices

Analytics runs without cookies and without anything that identifies you until you turn it on here. Everything else stays off until you choose it.

Strictly necessaryKeeps you signed in to the product and remembers the choice you make on this panel. These cannot be switched off.
Always on
AnalyticsGoogle Analytics, so we can see which pages are useful. Off means it still counts the page view without cookies and without identifying you. On means it remembers your visit between pages.
MarketingTools that recognise you across visits, so we know whether something we sent you brought you here. These set cookies as soon as they load, so they load only if you turn this on.
